If you live in Rancho Cucamonga, Upland or Fontana, you have a choice most of Los Angeles does not. Ontario International is on your doorstep, and LAX is an hour or two west depending on the day. People often book LAX out of habit. It is worth stopping to ask whether you need to.
Ontario is a small airport by Southern California standards, with two terminals and short walks from the kerb to the gate. That changes the whole shape of a travel day. You can leave home later, the drop-off takes minutes, and on the way back you are in the car soon after your bag appears.
It suits domestic trips best. If an airline flies your route from Ontario, the time you save on the ground usually outweighs a slightly higher fare. Early departures are where it shines: a 6am flight from Ontario means a sensible alarm, where the same flight from LAX means leaving in the middle of the night.
LAX has the routes. For most international travel, and for plenty of direct domestic flights, it is the only option in the region. If your trip needs a connection from Ontario but flies direct from LAX, the direct flight is usually worth the drive.
The catch is the drive itself. The 10 and the 60 are unpredictable, and the terminal loop at LAX can add a quarter of an hour on its own. Plan the pickup from live traffic, not from what the map said last week.
Whichever airport you pick, a fixed price agreed in advance removes the one thing you cannot control, which is traffic running up a meter. We cover Ontario and LAX transfers across the Inland Empire. For travellers starting closer to Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, Harris & Huri run an Ontario airport car service on the same fixed-fare basis.
Tell us your flight number when you book and the pickup is timed to the flight, early or late.
